A YouTube Live with Eejfe Depoortere

On September 23, Eejfe Depoortere, professionally known as "Sjokz", the most famous host of League of Legends, made a YouTube Live Chat with Ball State. She discussed how to shape the future of media and electronics and also offered advice to anyone willing to start their career in this booming industry.

An article on AAE Speakers said that, “Widely respected across the esports world for her elevated yet authentic brand image, Sjokz is known as a role model and a champion for other women in gaming.” In fact, Depoortere mentioned that she started as a history major before deciding to make esports hosting her lifelong career.

When Depoortere was asked about the boundaries between esports and traditional sports, she expressed her idea that she doesn’t care if people don't want to call Esports "sports" because it doesn't need to be called anything but Esports. Depoortere also mentioned that although esports is a new sports competition, it should not be underestimated. The writing of traditional sports and esports is similar, where high-level athletes bring professional and passionate sports competitions to the audience.

Depoortere also shared some of her work experience. "Especially for an Esports broadcast which is really jumping on the trends, live streaming is changing so fast everything can go viral, you need to have fresh ideas and you need to keep moving," said Depoortere. For women who are going in the video production, her advice is knowing your worth, keeping working hard and trusting people who can guide you.
